Description
BlackRock World Mining Trust plc is a UK-domiciled closed-ended investment trust launched in December 1993, dedicated to providing diversified, actively managed exposure to global mining and metals assets. Its primary objective is to maximise total returns through long-term capital growth and income, investing principally in equities of mining companies worldwide, alongside royalties from metal and mineral production, up to 10% in physical metals, and up to 20% in unquoted securities. Managed by Evy Hambro and Olivia Markham of BlackRock's Natural Resources team, the trust benchmarks against the MSCI ACWI Metals & Mining 30% Buffer 10/40 NR index and emphasises innovation in sectors like precious metals (gold, silver), base metals (copper, nickel), and bulk commodities. Top holdings include Agnico Eagle Mines, Rio Tinto, and Wheaton Precious Metals, with geographic focus on Canada, the US, Australia, and the UK, predominantly in basic materials (94.88%). Featuring quarterly dividends, an ongoing charge of 0.95%, and modest gearing of 5%, it plays a key role in offering investors specialised access to the volatile yet essential mining industry, capitalising on trends like energy transition and digitalisation.
