Description
Joby Aviation is an aerospace company developing electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for urban air mobility services. The company is building an all-electric air taxi platform designed to provide zero-emission aerial ridesharing, combining the speed and convenience of helicopter travel with the environmental benefits and cost efficiency of electric propulsion. Joby's aircraft are engineered to be nearly silent during operation—approximately 100 times quieter than traditional helicopters during takeoff and landing—while carrying a pilot and up to four passengers on point-to-point routes. Founded in 2009 by aerospace engineer JoeBen Bevirt, Joby has conducted extensive flight testing, surpassing 50,000 miles across its fleet and achieving significant milestones including single-charge flights exceeding 150 miles. The company has secured Part 135 air carrier certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, enabling commercial air taxi operations. Strategic partnerships with industry leaders including Toyota Motor Corporation, Uber, Delta Air Lines, and Blade Air Mobility support Joby's manufacturing capabilities and market expansion. With headquarters in Santa Cruz, California, and production facilities in Marina and Dayton, Joby is positioning itself as the first certified eVTOL airline operator, targeting initial commercial launches in major U.S. cities and international markets.
